What Defines a "Real" Man?
There is an on going debate that a "real" man is defined by his masculinity or the ability to carry himself as such, regardless of whether he handles his responsibilities. We are often taught that as men we should carry our self a certain way so that we don't appear weak. This is especially prominent in the black community, where showing signs of weakness is not acceptable. Men aren't supposed to cry, we are to remain strong. Provide for the family and be the backbone of our households. As we already know, that role has long gone unfulfilled considering the large number of single family household ran by the women, and in a lot of two parent homes, the woman makes more money, leaving the wife to be the primary provider. Should men feel inadequate?

Statistically speaking women make better salaries. I think it has to do with biblical scripture "the first shall be last and last shall be first" consistent to why experts predict whites will become the minority. In regards to men feeling inadequate I think has a lot to do with the attitude of women making more money and how they treat their husbands or significant male other. The idea is not to destroy his ego or pride. Money is ok if only for financial reasons and should not be used to exert power or belittle him. It is her job to make sure his dignity remains in tact. -Kevin Nash
ReplyDeleteThat I can agree with you on. Money shouldn't be used to exert status or power, but should the definition of a real man be based on the role he performs in a relationship or his character as a person? Should it be based upon sexual preference and demeanor or his ability to show maturity and embrace whatever responsibilities bestowed upon him?
ReplyDeletei think that it should be based on how he handles the responsiblites he accesses for himself, most definitely. and that of which he shows in maturity of his demeanor no matter what it may be.
ReplyDeleteOliver that is true. There is a spiritual and wise saying that "to whom much is given, much is required". This quote transcends into all aspects of our life. I am given gifts to utilize and it is my responsibility to use those gifts to help someone else.
